Does your spirituality revolve only around you or others as well. What is the basis for your spirituality and why?

It always involves, if not revolves around, others. Even for a hermit, his solitude can only be defined in relation to other people.

A totally self-focused spirituality would be solipsism.

Christianity portrays God as essentially relational, and describes our spirituality in terms of relationships too.

What do you think? Answer below!

    Illogical.

Got me. I’m not at all “spiritual.”
I think people that are on the fence between theist/agnostic/atheist use that term a lot nowadays to mean “deist” of some sort: they don’t want to admit to lacking belief in the popular god, and they’re not ready to look their lack of belief in the eye, so they just say, “I’m spiritual.”

Whatever gets you through the day 🙂

    Peace.

It means people are connected together but not in a physical way. Our bodies might be water and molecules that dont even know we exist, but our conscious being is pure energy. Electronic energy that is measureable and is therefore real. The energy of one influences another. You sometimes hear of people who see other’s aura. It is real. We are connected to each other by this energy. Some of us are more attracted to one than to others. This attraction is a spiritual attaction. Some of us sense a connection. Havn’t you met someone that you immediately hit it off with?

  • Susan M says:

To me spirituality means living in a state of awareness of my unity with my fellow humans and all the life on this planet and acting on this awareness by being compassionate and responsible towards the inhabitants of this world.

  • Yaya says:

To me, spirituality has to do with how we live our lives rather than what religion we belong to.

A spiritual person elevates others and harbors no ill will against those who do not agree with him/her.

It’s so much more than words; it’s all about our actions.

  • Premaholic says:

I am not the body, is the beginning of “Spirituality”…If you “think”, I am a body. you automatically see others as bodies.

  • Ethan C says:

Spirituality for me starts with heart — and probably ends there, too.
Some of the 10 Commandments apply here, like Love thy neighbor as thyself, Honor your father and mother. But to make them into Commandments is kind of silly, because we all can do is the best we can. And if you think someone should be punished for not being loving enough — well, then that’s not very loving.
And sometimes Tough Love is the love that’s needed. Grabbing a bottle away from an alcoholic, saying No to a teenager who wants to do something really crazy.
Spirituality for me — I don’t even like the word, because there are so many connotations attached to it that are unhealthy. People think that if you’re spiritual you can’t stand up for yourself — that came from “Turn the other cheek,” which has its place, but is not supposed to mean that you should let people walk all over you.
For me being spiritual means doing my best to be kind to everyone in my life, from family to the guy behind the counter in the convenience store. It also means being kind to myself — often the hardest thing of all, but I think that God wants us to love ourselves just the way we are, warts and all.

I have no life without my spirit, and I have no spirit without truth. To live life in spirit requires great sacrifice, and so few people grasp this. You are right in saying it has become cliche. But those who truly are spiritual serve one God and are redeemed from their dying flesh by the bond of faith. When who you are in your heart becomes greater than what you appear to be in the world, you are growing in the spirit. And thus you are content to let go of all in the world to serve the greater good in the spirit. As spirit, all you are concerned with is inviting others to enter into this state, as flesh all your concerned with is how to take care of yourself. “Look at the birds of the air…”
Understand this and you have found life. Deny it and you have found death.

  • Robert K says:

Ultimately, for me, spirituality means that it is possible to unconditionally love myself, love others and love all that exists in God’s creation. Even if people don’t believe in God, they are still capable of giving and receiving love. By me, that is the basis of spirituality, and everything that comes after that is kind of window dressing. Best wishes!

To aquire spirituality means we connect with others over top our egos and unite our hearts in mutual love, sharing and caring. It is to be as one body and all tuned into the same song of love.

Spirituality is a process of getting to KNOW our OWN INNERSELF. It has nothing to do with religion, morality, ethics and Holy Men and Women. Every person is a spiritual person… some are ‘consciously’ spiritual while others are ‘sub-consciously’ spiritual. We all are in constant search for our lost kingdom of our Inner Self. Spirituality is not External to you. It is purely an INTERNAL process.

  • Jill E says:

To me, being spiritual means that at every moment I am thinking, acting, behaving with awareness.

It does not only revolve around me, in fact it mostly revolves around others. I use every contact and interaction to act in a loving way. It brings me great happiness, and maybe it brings others happiness, too.

The basis of my spirituality is to think, act and behave at all times with love in my heart and to see every encounter as a holy encounter, or a lesson to be learned from where I can grow further.

  • HELLBOY says:

Spirituality is nothing more than the preference for ‘pretend’ to be true.
