Possibly. But Hinduism is also very old and some Hindu rites might be just as old – maybe even older….

Why post a question you know the answer to and if someone did not agree you wouldn’t believe them anyway

  • anna says:

No. The Easter egg is a Russian orthodox tradition symbolising the Holy Trinity. Shell, white, yolk: all part of one thing, the egg. Father, Son, Spirit: all part of one Godhead. They also symbolise eternal life and renewal.

You go ahead and believe what you want, though.

  • ? says:

ALL pagan rites were turned into (so-called) christian rites
so who knows which one was first

but even christmas, the so-called birthday of jesus was stolen.
it coincided with 21-22 dec. the shortest day (northern hemisphere)
and people would hang food in trees for their god, because the days would get longer again and warmer, hoping for a good harvest

  • Super Atheist says:

I suppose it’s only practical that Christianity co-opted so many pre-existing holidays and celebrations. There would have been an outcry if they’d tried to ban them, and it’s always easier to join than beat.

What’s really wretched is the way their modern followers whine about people ‘not respecting the TRUE meaning of [insert stolen ceremony here]’.

Oh, did the secular world swipe its holiday back? How terribly sad!

  • Rev. Two Bears says:

Easter and many other special days were added to the church calendar to bring pagans to Christianity.

    Easter falls on Oestara’s day.

Christmas calls on Persian God/man Mithras’s birthday

  • Kage Ookami says:

Yes actually it is, that is why I do not follow it. Research christmas also, it has pagan roots also. The Bible sets forth Holy Days, yet never mentions these. Modern “Christianity” is just a mixing pot of beliefs. That is why many people think it is stupid.
