Question by ?Mariposa?: A research report about Tarot Cards ! I need some help please?
Now, I am just doing an outline for my report and it’s dued May 1.

My research questions : Can the tarot cards really tells us what will happen to us in the future ?

I need to think of questions for 3 parts…Introduction, Body , and Conclusion. Can you help me think of about 2 or 3 for each parts. Example:An introduction question might be “what are tarot cards”? and a body might be “What was the history/origins of tarot cards?

So please help me think of some questions !! 🙂
Doesn’t matter if you believe in it or NOT..I just need you to think of some questions..that’s all 🙂

hi, How about can the subconscious mind influence the cards that are pulled. Do our moods alter the reading?
Does the mood ofthe reader in any way effect the way the reading turns out? good luck, Arlene

Tarot cards are the forerunners of modern playing cards. There is the “Minor Arcana”, made up of four suits (wands, cups, pentacles, and swords) of 14 cards each. These are the Ace (or one) through the ten, plus four court cards: page, knight, queen, and king. Our modern cards eliminated the knight (to have an odd number for gaming purposes) and changed the page to a “jack”. The wands became clubs, pentacles became diamonds, cups became hearts, and swords became spades.

The Major Arcana is the famous part, with pictures like the Devil, the Wheel of Fortune, the Pope, Death, etc. These were eliminated in playing cards except the Fool, which became the joker.

Tarot cards are still used for games in Europe (though they don’t use the fortune telling pictures on them). This is what they were used for initially.

Personally, I can’t think of how any kind of cards could tell your future. They’re a randomized set of printed cardboard. I have taken online readings for fun (no, I don’t believe in it), and the discussions are kind of like reading Nostradamus: they are vague enough they could apply to a lot of things common in most people’s lives, but yet there’s just enough specific things to make it sound convincing.

OK, the first thing you need to know is that many of those making money on Tarot cards outright falsify Tarot’s history. Tarot cards actually came after conventional playing cards and they were only used for playing a variant card game in which those extra 22 cards were used as a trump suit. The Tarot deck was formed in 15th century Italy. Tarot only began to be used for fortune telling in the 18th century.

So you might want to break it up into a few sections like this:

    1. What was the origins and the history of tarot cards?
Then go into details about the 13th century decks and the renaissance histories. It was very much a card game at one point.

    2. What is structure of the deck? Then you could go into detail about the 22 Trumps (that came from the 22 Roman Triumpants or carnival parades). The 4 suits then work out.

    3. When did it start to become a divinitory tool? Then you can go into Levi’s joining of the old tarot decks to the Qabbalistic Tree of life during the Age of Enlightenment. Then fast forward a century to the new renaissance and the Rider Waite deck.

    4. Where does the tarot get it’s information? Then you can talk about the images versus the traditional meanings. You can go into something on an analogy for reading a map.

    5. Where tarot is today? You can go into all of the different decks and the way that they have been customized for all sorts of specifics.

Good luck and I hope that helps!

Here’s some useless information you might want to add in.

Tarot cards can not read your future precisely: they can lead you on the road you are on though, which is not exacting telling the future. The tarot cards are like a guide to your life… Kind of. They don’t tell you what WILL and WON’T happen in the future, they guide you… [I sound like a hippie!]

It is clearly impossible for someone to read your cards online: you have to have known the person for a while or else it won’t work as there is no connection between the reader and the other person. So if you get your tarots read online they will be WRONG.

Tarot is really a family of card games like bridge or spades. That was there intended usage. Tarot began in Italy around 1420-1440 for use as a card game. Tarot is still played as a real card game in places like France and Italy. The Major Arcana was intended to be a trump suit. They started to become a divination method during the 18th century after an occult writer Antione Court de Gebeline wrote about them believing that the cards came from Egypt and were related to the book of Thoth.
