well i heard from a few people that pagans are devil worshipers , but i wanted to be sure so what do pagans believe in

Best answer:

Answer by Frou Frou
no we are not devil worshipers
one of paganisms gods has been misrepresented by christianity and called the devil thats the problem

christianity has a devil, paganism does not

i beleive in nature and fate
im not a devil worshiper
i dont believe in the devil for starters so that kind of puts a crutch there

there are many differnt kinds of pagans, same as there are many differnt kinds of christians
all religions have branch offs and groups

  • Pangel - remembering old friends says:

Pagans dont believe in the biblical devil let alone worship him
so that cant be true huh ?
these people who say such things really mean …. anyone who isnt Christian works for Satan
    which again is nonsense

Paganism is a huge umbrella of many beliefs
so each Pagan would be quite different to the next
but I will star this and hopefully some of my Pagan friends can tell you about theirs xx

Paganism has been around longer than all the other religion with no problems.

well, the simplest answer is that we believe in the older ways, of trusting and worshiping the world around us- nature and the cycle of the year. We do not worship the devil because we don’t believe in him! thanks for taking the time to ask this question, it’s always nice to see someone actually trying to learn about other religions.

    lol.
“Devil worshipers”. You’re so freakin’ retarded.

answer: No, to be a devil worshipper, you have to be a renegade Xtian. Pagans don’t worship the Xtian, Jewish or Islamic deity so they don’t believe in the devil either.

Paganism is an umbrella term for a lot of pagan religions. Most pagans believe in reincarnation, karma, a reverence for life, multiple deities, and being open minded.

Pagans believe in many different gods. Pagans aren’t devil worshippers. Pagan means country dweller.

*drink* (repeated question, you can look up previous answers to it).

Pagan is a general term for many different religions that are not Christianity (or whatever is the currently popular religion in the area). In fact at different times in history Christians have even called Jews and Christians of a different denomination heretics and pagans.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pagan

Even stranger, at different points in history when the Christian majority has become especially corrupt (especially during the Middle Ages and during the Inquisition) even devout Christians have chosen the term pagan for themselves so as not to be associated with Christian atrocities. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misotheism

Until recent times, thanks to thousands of years of prejudice and misinformation, the term has developed a reputation for being interchangeable with hated or even “evil”.

In the more recent times of (mostly) tolerance and acceptance, the Pagan minority has been able to stop hiding. Though there are still incidents of (un-Christian like) violence, most non-pagans have accepted a live-and-let-live attitude or at least a don’t-ask-don’t-tell attitude about religion (if you cannot be civil about the fact that I am not a Christian, then do not shove in my face the fact that you are).

Personally, I avoid the term “Pagan” and just tell people that I am a non-Abrahamic (not Jew, Christian, nor Muslim) Theist (believer in god(s). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abrahamic

There are Sanskrit (Elitist Language of Hindu Religion) words called Paashaanda—Paagandi— Paashaanam means stone—Pashaanda Sthaapanam= invoking “Dieties” in Stone (in Kerala and Tamil Nadu at times the stone is not sculptured and in other parts the stone is sculptured to a Figure)–what may be called as “Idol Worship”.In Sruthi there appears to be No or rare references for Idol Worship, but in Smrithi there are copious references for Idol Worship–in Bhagavad Geetha also Lord sri Krishna refers to “Tanum Bhakthaha”–The word Paagaan might have something to do with Paashaanda-Paagandi etc.

Another thing,I leaned from AOL “Hinduism” Message Boardi(way back in 1998-2000) was that Pagans worship Maitra and Varuna.Rg vedham ,which is described by European Indologists as “The Oldest repository of human knowledge”– the words Mitra,Maitra,Varuna are used.( Mitra/Maitra=the “Divinity” in Sun—Varuna=the “Divinity” in rain/clouds).I do not think these are connected with Devils. Some 55 years back,Christians Evangelists in our village public plateforms used to mock at Hindus as worshippers of Sun,Rain,Air etc.If one carefully analyses the verses in Rg vedham(Mantram) it is mentioned that the 5 Mega media–Air,Water,Space, earth etc need to be kept clean and pure as “Divinity” lives in them “Aapaha Punanthu Prathveem -Prithvi Poothaa Punaathu Maam”=Let copious flow of water purify the Earth and let that purified Earth give us clean food”– i do not know what is wrong in this? if a Religious verse says it is “mockery”-if an Environmentalist says it is Science!!!!!!!!

Those who claim pagans to be devil worshipers are people who don’t know what they are talking about. They are the type of people who believe that anything that isn’t of their religion is the path to the devil, which is wrong. These people are ignorant, and wish to remain so, as they don’t want to learn new things and expand their minds outside of a little black book.

Its very difficult to worship something that I don’t believe in.

Pagan is a term these days given to people who don’t believe in the male dominated monotheistic dogmas. Ask ten pagans what paganism is and you will get 10 different answers.

    In a very brief nutshell:-

It is said that when man first started to evolve, he used religion to help him understand the world, the environment, the weather, the cycles of nature. So the great lady and lord came into being. Having this “knowledge” also gave man a sort of power over his environment.

As the human race expanded, those basic ideas grew and developed. All races had their own variation.

Today, there are as many types of paganism as there are pagans. Some pagans remain true to the old religions, some pick and choose parts of many different ones
