Question by 101% liberal!: USA law – Why is the age of majority 16 but the drinking age is 21?
At 16 in my state you can get married, have sexual intercourse, drive a car, leave school and get a job.
Shouldn’t we be allowed to drink at 16?
Plus should the USA legalize cannabis and magic mushrooms for 16+

I don’t think you should be able to get married at 16. Driving and working are a little different. In my state (Texas) you can only get married under the age of 18 with a parent’s signature.
16 is entirely too young for drinking. 21 is too young for drinking, too. Too many people at that age are irresponsible. I can’t even tell you how many young people have died in my town from drinking and driving. Not to mention the poor decisions that come from drunk nights…….
I don’t disagree with legalizing marijuana, but there should be age restrictions on that as well. As for mushrooms…..that’s a bit much. Nobody needs to load up on hallucinogens & go driving.

The age of majority is 18, not 16. You don’t get any rights at 16. You get them at 18. 18 you can vote, not 16. 18 you can enter into contracts, not 16. 18 you can move out of your parents house, not 16.
Should you be allowed to drink at 16? In most states you can under your parents supervision. Should it be lowered to the age of majority (18)? No. Too many people are not responsible enough now at 21. What makes you think they would be more responsible at 18?
Should other drugs be legalized? I don’t have a problem with it, as long as it is regulated the same as alcohol (can’t buy or use until 21).
Your name says it all. Wanting everything because you feel like a ‘victim’. This is why liberals always fail, too much complaining not enough intelligence.
Because that is the way the various legislatures have voted. If you think the legislatures should vote differently, then get elected to the legislature.
