Question by dude: Do natural drugs like Marijuana and Mushrooms used occasionally enhance spirituality or do they only hamper it?
The Native Americans used such drugs and others to go on vision quest. What is your opinion spiritually speaking even if you are indifferent?

I call it a false, temporary enhancement. But I don’t use either of those items. I hasten to add I’d vote to legalize them.

spiritually speaking I personally do believe that shrooms, dmt, and some others can be used as a vision quest and can enhance spirituality. But that is just my opinion. I know that Shamans also experimented with certain drugs to help with vision quest/medicine. But again, this is just my opinion.

They definitely enhance. They help open up your consciousness. See outside of yourself. Or, mindscape within.

  • Bill K Atheist Goodfella says:

They alter the way the mind percieves things. They don’t create (or hinder) spirituality; the altered state is confused for it.

They do NOT enhance true communication with God.

They allow you to communicate with figments of your imagination BUT…

A man having a near-death experience (George Ritchie 3, MD, “Return From Tomorrow”) could see both living people and unseen spirits all around them in a seedy bar. All the livinig people had auras of faint light around them. When somebody would pass out from too much drinking, the aura of light would separate @ their head and one of the spirits would jump inside the unconscious man.

Yes, there might be a correlation between “those pink elephants” and the real spirit world.

    I think it enhances spirituality.
I had a class in college on Native American Mythology so I know some about the use of peyote and tobacco as well, not only on vision quest but in the sweat lodges and other meetings as well.
Probably one of the most well known uses for marijuana as a spiritual aid is by Rastafarians/Jamaicans.

It is also used by some Hindus.
And I can’t remember the name of it, but there is a group of Asian monks, maybe in Tibet who use Marijuana to open their minds spiritually.

Yes!!! They both can be used to enhance spiritual experiences. I have done this with both, and while I am sure they could hamper the experience for some people, for me they actually did enhance the experience,

  • RACHO says:

    enhance, for sure

I am a native american and i never met another that has used marijuana 4 a ceremony. We use peyote which you cant just smoke and go on a vision quest, you have 2 do it with a ceremony in order 2 get a vision.

in a recent study of psilocybin mushrooms, half of the test subject described the encounter as the single most spiritually significant experience in their lifetimes.

from my own studies, I can concur
