Question by midniteeye: can someone recommend me some advance tarot decks?
i’ve been searching for a few advance tarot decks to give to a friend as gift. she is an advance user, who actually turned me from a non-believer into a believer. she was so accurate that it almost scared me. in fact, i want to believe that she has super natural power. she can do things beyond cards and stars.

i told her that i want to get her a couple of special decks as birthday gift. i do know that she already has the rider waite deck, and that while she believes it is a good beginner deck, it will no longer due for her.

can someone recommend me some advance decks that will not cost me an arm and a leg? i saw this da vinci tarot cards at a local bookstore. not sure if it was trying to ride the da vinci code gravy train, or if it is really a deck worth buying.

please help. much appreciated. thanks in advance.
a couple of replies raised the issue that a deck bought buy another person will carry that person’s spirituality and may not be in tune with the actual user, especially an advanced user, which my friend is.

this might sound stupid to many of you, since i have virtually no knowledge in this matter. what if i sell my gift tarot decks to my friend for something like a penny. would that circumvent the buyer spirituality issue?

please advise. any help will be highly appreciated.

“Some of the more advanced tarot books use these tarot cards, known as the Tarot of Marseille, for illustrative purposes, citing the purity of the symbolism.”

This deck is expensive but I thought I’d throw it out there anyway. It’s called the Curious Tarot Deck. Amazing imagery, just a beautiful deck to me.

you should not give a deck of tarot to your friend. your fren should choose a deck on her own. if you choose the deck for her, it would mean the deck will be link to your spiritually more than her. i.e. if a user did not choose the deck for himself/herself the prediction will not be as accurate.

Tionky raises a good point. A tarot deck attunes itself with its owner’s spiritual energies. Maybe a better gift would be a gift certificate to her favorite shop that sells tarot cards. You can visit the shop again and ask the associates there to help you out.

Yes, never buy a deck for an experienced user. Only buy a starter deck for someone who might be interested. The reader has to be “in tune” with the deck. They have to like it visually, the size, shape of the cards, do the illustrations reflect their thoughts and interpretations? Any advanced user will smile and never use it. And forget the Da Vinci deck. What a joke. That’s not real Tarot.

According to tradition, a tarot deck given by a loving friend is much more powerful than a tarot deck bought by the reader him/herself. So, any deck you get her would be good. There are many good decks for sale, so what does she like? Cthulhu? Lord of the Rings? Aleister Crowley? Perhaps you might also try to find the book “777” by Aleister Crowley.

It is difficult to buy a deck for someone without them being there. The cards must “feel right” for the reader to be comfortable with them. My best advice is when you go to buy them take your friend with you. That way you will be sure that the cards are right for them. If you still want it to be a surprise I can recommend the Dragon Tarot or the Robin Wood Tarot. Both are a step or two above the Waite deck. If you are looking for a really advanced deck then try the spider woman deck. It is based on native American mythology then there is the goddess tarot and the tarot of the witches.

Selling them to your friend as a gift? That is an etiquette don’t. It is like someone giving you a camera for your b-day and then telling you you need to pay them for handling charges. I still say take her with you , let her handle them to the register and such. You just give the checker the cash for them. Problem solved.

There are two camps on the gift of tarot or not. My first deck was an old Rider-Waite, from an antique shop that a friend gave me. It has worked so well for me in my healing and protecting work. I have since bought many decks, some for the art work and some for various times and reasons.
If you want to get your friend a deck, think of her for a time then look at the decks to see or feel which one stands out. I have bought decks for friends based on their interrests like Native American for a Blackfoot friend, Tarot of the Cat People for a friend that loves cats and relates to Freyja, for my daughter it was the Shakespearian, etc.
For beautiful artwork you could get the Guilded Tarot, for out of the ordinary you might get The Universal Tarot, or you might choose a deck that doesn’t function like a usual tarot. The pip cards in the Dragon Tarot from Barnes and Nobel don’t vary much, but the art and the major arcana are very nice and only around ten dollars if you’re strapped for cash. If your friend has good sight with the cards she may be able to get more out of these pips than others.
If you don’t feel comfortable with choosing you could take your friend out to look with you with a set amount decided. Some of those cards can get pretty pricey. Good luck and enjoy.

Below I have listed a great site thay have a huge selectiong, best of all they come to your door.

If you think that your friend is strong enough to handle a heavy energy deck Id sugguest the Deck of Toth by Allister Crowley, I also use the Ruhrig Deck, that a nice one as well. Also I think one that would be to her affiniity like a Goddes Deck or Angels deck would be nice.

Im sure youll find something on this site is the best when it comes to tarot selection it think. If you cant find it you can go by publisher, or even name type.

When I bought my two decks, each spoke to me, and I hd this feeling that that deck was the one to buy. Out of the thirty or so different decks that Borders sells, that’s pretty amazing.

okay, that whole don’t give anyone a deck is just silly . My first deck was given to me a couple of years ago as a party gift. I don’t believe you can jinx the cards or pass energies or anything like that. To me, in my opinion, the cards can give you hints or pointers or remind you of something from your past. Every book I’ve seen say that the cards aren’t written in stone, they are to be a guide.
I just got the Guilded Tarot deck from http://www.llewellyn.com and I just love the pictures on the deck, they make more sense to me then the other decks I have.
