Question by sunsets524: I’m interested in Tarot?
Basically I’ve been reading a book & it has gotten me interested in tarot. I would really like to try it for myself. My mother is religious as well as a majority of my extended family. I’m only 15; I don’t know what their reaction will be really.

What should I say so that I don’t sound like I’ve gone crazy or something? (I mean obviously my mother will have to take me to get the cards since I can’t drive.) And I don’t want to keep that a secret, it isn’t worth losing trust over. Advice?

I would stay away from them. If you want the ultimate spiritual life become a follower of Jesus Christ. It is the best thing I have ever done and the reason I live.

Tarots is considered witchcraft. So if you are a Christian than this is a grave sin. Not only that it could open the door to demonic influence.

    The Bible warns against it.

Deuteronomy 18; 10 There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, anyone who employs divination, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, 11 or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead. 12 For everybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah, and on account of these detestable things Jehovah your God is driving them away from before you. 13 You should prove yourself faultless with Jehovah your God.

wait til youre older if its something your parents would flip over, its ok to be your own person and want to learn about different practices, but you should read up on things before you try them.

Sweetie, you’re only 15. I know when I was 15, I thought Tarot was very cool. All the nifty cards with very unique and interesting designs. I got a deck, purified it and wrapped it in silk given to me by my best friend, just like the booklet recommended.

    Ya know what I realized?

There is nothing at all useful or meaningful or mystical about the cards or the readings. Even when a so-called expert used my deck to show me, nothing happened and she was obviously just spinning her wheels trying to get info from me so she could do the reading.

Find something else to get interested in that isn’t a waste of time. Sure, enjoy the cards… maybe frame some of the cooler ones to decorate your walls.

But just like any other mystical or supernatural stuff.. it’s just bogus.

Tarot can be a path to self-discovery. It uses the random symbols of the cards to stimulate a closer examination of where you’ve been, where you are, and where you will choose to go in the future. The best tarot readings DO NOT pretend to tell you what your future is. Only you can make the future happen the way you want by your acts.

Tell your mother this and if she is open-minded she will understand.

When all is fine that is where trouble begins and it always start with the one that have most good things of life.

Why stray? A bird in hand is better than two in the bush. It is sound to take that advise.

Why not just see those that is praticing it and see whether they are any better.

Don’t be simple. The price you have to pay is high. Worst, you will always be a follower. See the wealth in doing the works of the Good Lord, it is always amazing to see miracles happen through you.

As a Reverend I encourage my congregation to read and explore all spiritual choices. How can anyone make and back up a spiritual faith if he or she isn’t fully informed?Your looking into the Tarot doesn’t mean you will accept it and use it in your life. You may look into it and find it’s not for you.If that happens you will choose for yourself and be satisfied that you made the choice, not your parents or anyone else who doesn’t know anything at all about it. Be careful, though, where you learn about the Tarot. Learn from a true spiritual source that has good intentions. The Tarot is not just a fortune-telling tool but has psychological aspects that are completely safe to explore. However, you are only 15 and you have parents that have loved and protected you and who are looking out for you. If they would be upset, you have many years ahead to look into alternatives, so just wait a while. If you think they would be upset, then don’t “rock the boat” just yet. Many Christians aren’t fond of looking into other beliefs and lifestyles as they are afraid of being led astray. I don’t agree with this at all.I feel that looking into other possibilities and learning what they are about can confirm your faith and make you more committed to it because it was your own personal choice, not something pushed onto you by others who are not fully informed about both spiritual choices. Joshua 24:15 says to “choose for yourself” who you will worship. That choice must be made as an informed, mature person, so you may want to wait a little while to make that choice. But do get fully informed about different spiritual lifestyles.

I completely understand where you’re coming from. I was 14 when I started learning Tarot cards and almost 20 years later, I’m still reading them. It was something I had wanted to learn about since I was 10 or so and as soon as I got my first job, I bought my first Tarot deck.

When talking to your mother, keep it casual. You don’t know what her reaction will be. I would just explain it as something that interests you that you’d like to pursue as a hobby. She -and your extended fam- may be against it completely. For some religions, fortune telling is frowned upon.

If she chooses not to help you in buying a deck of Tarot cards, remember that there are a lot of free resources on the internet to learn how to use Tarot cards. Sites like http://www.facade.com or http://www.ifate.com allow you to do virtual readings for free-not as fun as using a real deck, but something to help you get started.

I was lucky that my mother was open-minded enough to be okay with me reading Tarot – now she’s one of my biggest sources of new clients. If your mother is absolutely against you using Tarot, wait a few years more until you’re an adult. Tarot will still be there and it means having one less thing to fight about with your mom until then.

Whew! That was a little longer than I intended.

I would bring it up in a casual conversation. Find out if she would be up for getting her cards read for fun. This way you will know how open you should be about your beliefs and interests.
