    a+theos= Without GOD(s.)

I’m not an atheist, but sometimes I think you people would make your case better if you understood how to use an etymological dictionary.

  • Gorgeoustx Vote the Fundies OUT says:

    Look at Buddhism!!!!!!!

  • ptrobrn says:

Why not look at being agnostic… belief in something more than you but no particular denomination.

  • sigurj says:

There are probably other ways to be spiritual other than belief in a higher power, I’m just not aware of them.

  • Michael K says:

Being spiritual isn’t just the beleif in a higher power.

  • Mossflower Wood says:

You can believe in “magick” and not God.
You can believe in an afterlife and not God.
You can believe in a soul and not God.
You can believe in ghosts and not God.
God is in no way required to be spiritual.

  • pisceswoman87 says:

Atheists aren’t spiritual. That’s pretty much the point of atheism.

  • Lou says:

If they are spiritual then they are not atheist. Half the atheists on R&S don’t know what they believe or do not believe.

  • Coolie Girl says:

aithieism is not spirtal. It’s simply a belief.who told you that?

  • impur1ty says:

Because it can be spiritual without a higher power. Kind of like Buddhism.

  • Jacacaca says:

I’ve asked my atheist friends the same thing many times. So far, I haven’t gotten an answer that convinces me it makes any sense.

I’ve tried to tell them that they’re agnostic at best. They consider that an insult to their scientific brains (they’re the types of people who beleive science and religion are destined to battle it out for eternity)…

  • Josh says:

    I dunno.

Sounds like your describing agnostic to me.

  • Bowen says:

Atheism is a lack of belief in deities and makes no statements regarding spirituality in general.

  • lalalacyy :) says:

i have no idea. now that i think about it…hm….idk.
and arent they kinda selfish/conceited cause they think theyr the biggest and besttt?

  • Senior Imprisoned Correspondent says:

No. Would you say Buddhists aren’t spiritual, even though their religion does not have a god figure?

You can be an atheist and still believe in spiritual things, like reincarnation or souls and ghosts, etc.

  • Hat Trick the Atheist Missionary says:

there is a difference (a big difference) between God and a higher power. I could rattle off about a billion higher powers that are not Gods.

  • Doctor ZER0 C00L •TL• •AM• •VT• says:

Spirits, supernatural phenomena, life cycles, etc, doesn’t necessarily depend on the existence of a supreme being according to certain religions.

    Check out Buddhism. Non-theistic religion.

  • Natalie M says:

Even if people say they don’t believe in anything or aren’t spiritual/religious, they are in some way.

Everyone believes in something, even if that something is nothing. They just may not believe in a ‘main stream’ God or they may not follow specific church doctrines.

The nature of humanity is to be spiritual — all of us ARE spirits on some level. It can’t be avoided.

  • Perry says:

I agree. You can’t have it both ways. Even though they want to! LOL

  • Deke says:

You don’t need to believe in higher powers in order to feel a connection with the natural world.

  • sculptorclay says:

First we need to define Spiritual: does one mean that which pertains to the soul, or does one mean emotional well-being and connectedness?

An atheist may or may not believe in the soul but I am certain all atheists can understand what emotional well-being is. Some of us might even strive to achieve it. That for us is spiritual.

    Thanks for the question.

  • noeschidt says:

It all depends on your definition of “spiritual”.

  • Michael K says:

One does not need a god to be spiritual.

  • MonaLisa Overdrive AM VT wannabe says:

“God” is not the same as “Higher Power.”

A human is a “higher power” than an ant, but we are not ant Gods.

You can believe in spirits without believing in an all-powerful Creator.

This isn’t a difficult or complicated concept to grasp. I personally don’t believe in any of it, but I am maybe agnostic on the spiritual stuff, and completely atheist on the God stuff.

  • David M says:

Atheism is disbelief in theism. Theism is a belief in a personal god. There are many other potential higher powers, from a universal consciousness to Brahman to animistic spirits.

I personally am not a spiritual atheist, as I consider anything metaphysical to be by definition speculation and invalid, but they certainly exist.
