The Three Reasons Why the Ignorance in Metaphysic for Most People is Just Happiness
After confirming that metaphysics is well- known, Maimonides continues giving a commentary why for the multitude ignorance of this branch is a real happiness.
The First Reason: “Where the wisdom comes from? Where the understanding?” ‘When the subject itself is profound and difficult to understand due to its fragility and profoundness’. This point of view was also shared by Aristotle in his Physics Book where he continues the study of getting clear from the cognizable things. Only the one who can dive can find the pearls in the deepness of the ocean, not the one who can just swim.
The Second Reason: ‘And man is born a wild ass ‘, Job xi. 12 says. Firstly man had the possibility to understand, but this possibility was just wasted by him and not developed at an early stage. Some preparation and enough time are needed to realize the potential. There is also a possibility that the pupil will never gain this proposed maturity due to obstacles or an impatience to gain the knowledge in a deliberately speed- up course of learning. Maimonides would support the vision that even common sense turns to be really uncommon, that is why not many are smart enough to comprehend this entire staff and only few are able to attain perfection.
The Third Reason. Engagement to the preparatory studies needs time but all ambitious man searches for crash courses. Without any hard affords his success will only be extraneous. Even a sleepy person would naturally desire to get to know the metaphysical secrets but he would rather just passively listen than contribute himself in the search. It would never become his primary task but it would be sufficient for him to get some imaginary and tricky
