Love is in the Air!!
Did you ever know that the popular event that is celebrated as Valentine’s Day, originated some eight hundred years ago. Those days the Romans practiced a pagan celebration commemorating young men rite of passage to the God Lupercus. Later on the pagan was slightly changed and they began a lottery of saints. Instead of the pagan god Lupercus, the Church looked for a suitable patron saint of love to take his place. They found an appropriate choice in Valentine, who, in AD 270 had been beheaded by Emperor Claudius.
During the days Valentine was imprisoned, he fell in love with the blind daughter of the jailer. His love for her, and his great faith, managed to heal her blindness. Before he was taken to his death, he signed a farewell message to her saying, “From your Valentine.” This phrase has ever since been used by lovers all over the world which denotes the love of Valentine for his beloved.
This is how the holiday in mid-February took shape as being called the ‘Valentine’s Day’. It carries special importance to all lovers and suitors who are awaiting a chance to propose their love to someone. These days Valentine’s Day has taken a form of a special occasion when youngsters party and hang around with their friends. Apart from couples celebrating their love and togetherness, close friends and families too have grown to celebrate this occasion with special interest.
The general trend is to send gifts, flowers and cards to each other with a special message attached.
