We don’t know enough about sex and sexuality to say that prostitution is bad, and we’ve survived thousands of years with it being around. Shouldn’t we stop screwing around and actually learn what our sexuality is, rather than pretending we can make snap judgments about it (or that the judgments we made in the Bronze Age are necessarily valid)? @FistfulofDicks gotta love negative utilitarianism. You’re still stating things without proof, and there is absolutely no proof that the cautious, careful, respectful attempt in and of itself (rather than blindly striving for utopia) is a bad thing. In fact, in order to have lots of suffering in the world, all we have to do is not try and go beyond stopping the suffering of the moment.
@stealthbadger Looking for an optimization of happy behavior sounds like looking for something natural to me.
There’s nothing natural. And there’s no optimization of happiness. The only thing humans can hope for is a minimization of suffering.
But that is all I have to say here.
It’s Friday night, and I’ve got a gigantic bag of crack waiting just for me, with one word written all over it; “HAPPINESS”
@stealthbadger In fact, I think that arguing about what is “natural” is fucking pointless, and that we would be better served by trying to figure out what makes the human animal healthy and happy, rather than what is “natural.”
@FistfulofDicks Not precisely. I’m more saying we don’t know very much about ourselves and need to learn.
For example, tell me whether lifelong monogamy is “natural” for humans. If it is, then half of the marriages in the United States are unnatural. If it isn’t, then we’ve been suppressing our “natural” urges. What is most likely is that lifelong monogamy is one of many possible arrangements that could work, and may or may not be the best one (my personal opinion is “no,” but YMMV”).
Oh wow, I think I understand.
I think I finally understand!
You think that humans have repressed their *natural* sexualities and we’ve all been hiding from our *natural* behavior.
Actually, I already knew that was where you’re all coming from. lol.
Such a waste of nice brains, though, to get caught up in that kind of thinking.
Good vid, I agree. Anti-Prohibitionist. I like that phrase, I think I will use it.
Great video, sir badger! 🙂
Good video. A really good video. I agree we need to switch some of our focus. I could see a potential for trickle down from the elite over time. Say enough politicians get outted then it becomes less of a deal. Kinda like smoking pot or doing coke and then running for public office. Or something similar. But a good question is what can we say about power and sex now? I definitely think whatever connection people make between the two it’s bi-directional and not uni like some would have us think.
Thank you for your video response. You make some excellent points. Very powerful!
You are welcome for the time and attention.
Awww we know more about sex and sexuality than we did prior to the Kinsey report, give us some credit 😉 . Yeah we do have a long way to go though.
But then, I’m anti-prohibition on every “victimless crime”
