Old school MLM is definitely fading into the distance because the new kid on the block is making people much more comfortable than old MLM ever could.
Before I get into that I’ll explain what old school MLM is, I didn’t really know what it was because I came into network marketing at the beginning of the new era but that didn’t stop me from doing research.
Old school MLM involves getting involved with a network marketing company and making what they call a “warm market” list. This list consistent of people you actually know friends, family and relatives. You’re supposed to “tell” them about your opportunity because it sells itself (ha!). Now if the opportunity sold itself why do they need to pay you a percentage to “tell” other people about the product.
So after you try to build your business by telling people about your business who have no interest in the product or don’t care to be entrepreneurs you’re supposed to hand out fliers and business cards.
You’re also supposed to hold hotel meetings to do a “business overview” and set up booths at the mall to try to recruit people who are willing to walk towards you. Oh, I can’t forget this one, you’re also supposed to recruit people who are in the line at the grocery store with you.
Come on!
It’s no wonder network marketing has moved to a much more effective way to build a business. With web 2.0 attraction marketing you can actually target a specific audience that could contain thousands of people through the internet.
Instead of sending people to a replicated highly ineffective website you can create your own lead capture pages that talk to a specific audience.
