In the above words of tribute by the Government of India to the Paramahansa, sound his very life’s mission. As a world-teacher and eternal-preacher, his presence illuminated the paths of countless souls. He lived and taught the highest truths of life through out of his life.
He was born in Gorakhpur in 1893. He was sent to the United States of America in 1920 by his guru Yukteswar giri Maharaj as India’s delegate to the ‘International Congress of Religious Liberals”. After Vivekananda, Shri Paramahansa gave a clarion call not only to the Nation, but to the whole of the world as well.
As the part of his life’s mission, he designed Yoga lessons, teaching the art of living and the Yoga Meditation, ‘Scientific Healing Affirmations” in pursuit of “Man’s Eternal Quest”. He also designed “The Science of Religion”, “Metaphysical Meditation” and published ‘How You Can Talk with God’ and ‘The Law of Success’.
His holiness, Shri Paramahansa Yoganandaji entered Maha-samadhi (a yogi’s final conscious exit from the body) in Los Angels, California on March 7, 1952. “The remarkable incorruptibility of his body after death was a continued reflection of his unique, spiritually transcendent life.” Thus as the great world-teacher, Yogananda demonstrated the value of Yoga (scientific techniques for God-realization) not only in life but in death as well.
