Major League Baseball team, the Reds is a great team that has witnessed a great rush for Reds tickets! They belong to the Central Division of the National League and are based in Cincinnati Ohio. What started off as an amateur club in 1863 became fully professional in the year 1869. The Great American Ball Park at Cincinnati was the home ballpark of the Reds. The Red Stockings, as they were known as won straight 130 games in the year 1869 and 1870. In the year 1870 when the Red Stockings parted ways with the American Association, the team dropped ‘Stockings’ from their name. The Reds towards the close of the century comprised of several strong players like hitters Sam Crawford and Cy Seymour, brothers Harry and George Wright, Fred Waterman, and pitcher Asa Brainard. In 1919 the team had brilliant performers like Edd Roush and Heinie Groh and Hod Eller and Harry Sallee as pitchers.
Due to the Great Depression the team went bankrupt in 1931. In 1939, the Reds won the title of National League Champions and in 1940 the Reds won the World championship beating the Detroit Tigers. In 1961 the Reds won the National League Pennant but were defeated by the Yankees in the World Series. The year 1970 proved good for the Reds and they came to be known as the “Big Red Machine” and won 70 of their first 100 games. In 1972 the Reds on the NL West Championship and won the third NL West in 1973. In 1975 season the Reds got their championship after 35 years. In 1976 the Reds won NL West by 10 games. During the 1980s the highs and lows in the Reds career continued and the same trend continued in the 1990s and the 2000s.
