That awkward pre-teen age can be difficult to cater for film wise, with the ambiguous 12A rating not making things any easier for parents. The Harry Potter movies, Twilights, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Transformers trilogy are good bets, but steer tweens clear of Super 8 and X Men First Class as both these 12A’s drop a big fat F bomb in the middle of the, otherwise aimed at the early teens market, action.
For Teens
If you have 15 and overs in your family then you may assume that that opens up your family film options considerably. However, films with graphic scenes of a sexual nature or very adult themes such as drugs could make extremely awkward viewing for both you and your teenager. Super 8 is a good choice, or go for a comedy that’s harmless but still adult such as Bridesmaids or The Hangover 2.
Alternatively, box sets of television comedies make great viewing with older teenagers, so make yourself popular by purchasing An Idiot Abroad 2, Modern Family Season 2 or South Park Season 13.
For the Girls
When the wind and rain make going out less than an appealing prospect, why not get the girls round for a movie night and indulge all of your guilty girly viewing pleasures.
Girly comedies like Bridesmaids or He’s Just Not That Into You are perfect for a fun night in, or enjoy the fashion and friendships in the Sex and the City films.
Alternatively, why not go retro with a female favourite like Grease, Pretty Woman or Dirty Dancing? HMV has all of these classics and more in its extensive dvd library.
For the Boys
There are some great box sets for the boys at HMV, so why not get the lads round, get the beer flowing and have a movie marathon? Or, why not combine the two genres with clever horror/romance Never Let Me Go?
