2010 Easter Resurrection (#3)
For those who are struggling with paying the mortgage and providing food for the family, thoughts about the reality of a resurrection or the REVIVIFICATION of human flesh isn’t on the radar screen, except maybe for a brief moment. Was Jesus really raised from the dead, was it a metaphor, a mythological tale, or does anyone know the truth for sure?
Most church leaders look forward to EASTER SUNDAY because they will have large crowds and hopefully more MONEY coming into the coffers. The LRC community doesn’t even meet on Sunday so I guess we will have to keep walking in FAITH!
Ah, the Easter weekend is here. It’s time for Easter eggs, little bunnies, maybe brightly colored chickens, new Spring dresses clothes for everyone but dad, massive (and gory) reproductions of the story of the cross- with live animals, professional musicals, and of course the proclamation: HE IS RISEN: He is risen indeed! You’ve been there and know what I mean.
But, what about the questions in my opening paragraph?
How many who are church regulars are deep within more agnostic than believers. How many of the Sunday visitors can buy into the credibility of the resurrection story? How many will come back because their souls were fed, the brains were engaged, and their hearts were touched? The religious American landscape is changing and doing so very rapidly mainly because the intellectual dishonesty of the church with emotional appeals drawn out of the Easter story; not to mention the Catholic Church pedophile priestly problems (how about that for an alliteration?). 🙁
