Question by The Iron fist of justice: Wolf: why do so many pagans answer question directed at Heathens?
not that I mind or anything many have great input, however others make fools of themselves by speaking of something they know nothing about.

on another post someone even called me a christian… I’m sorry but that was funny to me(and sorta insulting but still funny)

  • JIM says:

According to the dictionary, one definition of heathen is pagan

  • Daughter of Hades says:

I answer because I have knowledge on the particular subject.

See this is the problem with neo-pagan/reconstructionist heathenry, the name brings far too many bad assumptions with it! And if you say norse-pagan then every pagan seems to jump on the band wagon.

This is the reason why paganism isnt acknowledged by most countries, its so fractal that we can never get enough people to write the same word on any census to be counted.

EDIT: The word heathen being used to describe barbaric people is nothing more than propaganda that was used by romans and chistians as yet another way to see that their views were accepted.

    pagan
    —Synonyms
    heathen, gentile

    heathen
    —Synonyms
heathenish, barbarous. Heathen, pagan are both applied to peoples who are not Christian, Jewish, or Muslim. Heathen is often distinctively applied to unenlightened or barbaric idolaters, esp. to primitive or ancient tribes: heathen rites, idols. Pagan, though applied to any of the peoples not worshiping according to the three religions mentioned above, is most frequently used in speaking of the ancient Greeks and Romans: a pagan poem; a pagan civilization.
    philistine; savage.

i realize i know very little about heathenism, but i usually answer to counter negative attitudes and blatant misinformation to support heathens. i also consider heathenism part of the pagan traditions. it’s an indo-european religion that’s extremely similar to celtic paganism and came from the same family as greco-roman, persian, and hindu religion.
