Question by Subcommander Grapefruit: How to use a Quartz Crystal for Metaphysical Power?
I a have some pretty cool quartz crystals and even a big smokey quartz crystal. Though they look really cool, I can’t say that I’ve noticed anything particularly metaphysically potent about them.
Have any of you had real metaphysical experiences with quartz crystals? If so, what are they like, and how do I access a crystal’s power?
Silly question? People have been using quartz crystals for spiritual purposes for tens of thousands of years. You are the one who is being silly.

I saw a physicist on the History Channel once say that a slice of American cheese has more energy in it than a crystal.

I did not believe crystals were anything other than rocks until I did a little experiment with a friend.
She blindfolded me and put the crystal somewhere on the table (I didn’t know where). I quieted/centered myself and then she led me to the table and I held my hand above the table and ran it slowly over the area trying to concentrate. Sure enough I came to a spot that felt hot and tingly… and it was right over the crystal. We did it a few times, it worked each time.
It made me realize that just like many things in nature, quartz contain energy. I use them many ways… in bury them in my garden to help it grow, I keep them on my altar, have tipped my wand with a quartz.
Best way to utilize them is first to practice meditating (if you haven’t already) and to try to learn how to feel their energy.
Crystals themselves do not have much power in them. They are good channelers for energy though and that is why they are often put in watches nowadays.
Having mystical powers is not really in Quartz’s scope, because 1) they are usually impure materials 2) they are not crafted to do anything and 3) because magic rocks are usually attributed in mythology as being rubies or emeralds and such.
If you are thinking about the legends of the Crystal Skulls, the power of the skulls are more phycological effects by finding a peaceful place because of the pretty colors inside of the rocks. The magic does not come from the rock.
There is no way to harness a piece of quartz’s magic energy because it is just a piece of rock. They look cool, but there isn’t anything radioactive or paranormal about quartz. Sorry to disappoint.
the best use for quartz is to place it around your computer monitor. quartz has a natural tendency to absorb radiation.
That really depends on what school of practice you are interested in, and what you intend to do with the crystal. If you ask a general question like this, you are likely to get as many varied responses as there are respondents. I don’t work with crystals myself, but I am familiar with this bit of common practice.

To access the power of the crystals, you should cleanse, program and dedicate your crystals.
Cleansing your crystals:
After acquiring the crystal either place in a glass bowl of spring water for 24 hours to remove any deeply embedded negativity; after 24 hours, dry. OR light a smudging stick made of sage, holding it over a fireproof bowl or container (like an abalone shell), blow out the flame, and then waft the smoke over your crystal several times to remove negativity and bring the crystals vibrancy back to normal. After each healing use, run the crystal under running water for a few minutes while holding the intention to remove negativity and to bring the crystal back to a neutral state and dry. OR smudge with sage as explained above.
Programming and Dedicating your crystals:
Crystals need to be dedicated to the purpose for which you use them. Dedicate a new crystal after it is initially cleansed. Dedicating focuses the energy of the crystal. Hold the crystal in your hand. Picture white light surrounding the crystal and say out loud, “I dedicate this (name the specific crystal) to the highest good of all. May it be used in light and love.”
To program your crystal, hold it. Let yourself be open to higher guidance. Consider the purpose for which you wish to use the crystal. Be specific. When you have formulated your program, say out loud “I program this (name the crystal) for (name your purpose). Then, while still holding the crystal, let yourself be open to higher guidance. You may need to repeat the dedication and programming several times.
